Thoughts on Success Part 2

Believe in Yourself

I think that believing in ourselves is the first step to success. We are all unique & special. We are all important. Let me share a quote from Gary Gregor.

I’m Special

By Gary Gregor

I’m special. In all the world there’s nobody like me.

Since the beginning of time, there has never been another person like me. Nobody has my smile. Nobody has my eyes, my nose, my hair, my voice. I’m special.

No one can be found who has my handwriting.

Nobody anywhere has my tastes- for food, music or art. No one sees things just as I do.

In all of time there’s never been one who laughs like me, no one who cries like me. And what makes me laugh & cry will never provoke identical laughter & tears from anybody else, ever.

No one reacts to any situation just as I would react. I’m special.

I’m the only one in all of creation who has my set of abilities. Oh, there will always be somebody who is better at one of the things I’m good at, but no one in the universe can reach the quality of my combination of talent, ideas, abilities & feelings. Like a room full of musical instruments, some may excel alone, but none can match the symphony sound when all are played together. I’m a symphony.

Through all of eternity no one will ever look, talk, walk, think or do like me. I’m special. I’m rare.

And in rarity there is great value.

Because of my great rare value, I need not attempt to imitate others. I will accept – yes celebrate – my differences.

I’m special. And I’m beginning to realize it’s no accident that I’m special. I’m beginning to see that God made me special for a very special purpose. He must have a job for me that no one else can do as well as I. Out of all the billions of applicants only one is qualified, only one has the combination of what it takes.

That one is me. Because …. I’m special.

Believing in your-self is essential. I am reminded of Henry Ford’s saying “if you think you can or you think you can’t you are right.” Your basic thoughts about success tend to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have always had a high degree of self-confidence. I tend to see myself as 6 feet tall & bullet proof. If something needs to be done I am confident that I can figure out how to do it. I give credit to my parents for helping me develop my self-confidence. My parents always believed in & supported me. That made it easy for me to believe in myself. I am reminded about the time that I wanted to disperse our cow herd in the 1980’s. My Dad’s comment was “do what you think is best I believe in you.” What do you think that kind of support did for my self-confidence? If you are a parent I encourage you to tell your children (don’t assume that they know) that you offer them unconditional Love & support. This applies to our children at all stages of their lives (birth to death). There is nothing like parental support & approval to help us succeed.

We all know that the degree of parental support & encouragement varies greatly from family to family. I was blest with strong parental support. That helped make my life easy. Your case may be different. That doesn’t mean you can’t believe in yourself & be successful. It means it will be more difficult. I believe you can still be successful. One thing we can all do is to make sure our children believe in themselves. If your family has a history of weak parental support you can be the one to change the pattern. Give your children unconditional Love & support. They will believe in themselves. Likely they will offer their children Love & support. They in turn will believe in themselves. You have changed your family for the better. They in turn have changed the world for the better.
